Our Thoracic Surgery team at Summit Medical Group (SMG) is dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and management of routine and complex diseases of the lungs, esophagus, stomach, and chest cavity.

Our highly-trained thoracic surgeons treat conditions using an individualized comprehensive approach using minimally invasive techniques in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, including pathologists, radiologists, pulmonologists, gastroenterologists and in cancer cases, oncologists, radiation oncologists, and surgical oncologists. Treatment may include surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, or targeted therapy.

​Types of Procedures We Perform

Lung Resection, a surgical procedure in which a section of the lung or the entire lung is removed.

Thymectomy/Mediastinal Mass, surgical removal of the thymus gland

Sympathectomy, the surgical cutting of a sympathetic nerve or removal of a ganglion

Nuss procedure, a minimally invasive surgery to correct severe pectus excavatum

Nissen Fundoplication, a laparoscopic procedure performed for patients suffering from gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) 

Paraesophageal Hernia Repair, a complex laparoscopic procedure where the stomach is gradually moved back into the abdominal cavity

Esophageal Myotomy, surgical treatment for achalasia, a rare disorder that makes it difficult for food and liquid to pass to the stomach

Esophagectomy, procedure where surgeon removes all or part of the esophagus through a chest or abdomen incision

Chest Tube, insertion of hollow plastic tube behind ribs to help drain air, blood, or fluid from the area surrounding your lungs, known as pleural space

PleurX, catheter insertion into chest for draining the area surrounding the lungs

Decortication, medical procedure involving surgical removal of the surface layer, membrane, or fibrous cover of and organ

Pericardial Window, a procedure completed on the sac around the heart that surgically removes a small part of the sac to drain fluid
