Summit Medical Group Uses Instagram to Encourage Peer Mammogram Referrals

#GramYourMammSMG offers a creative way to tell friends to get breast cancer screening

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ, OCTOBER 11, 2018 – Summit Medical Group (SMG), New Jersey’s premier multispecialty‚Äč medical group,  is harnessing the power of friendship and social media to remind women age 40 and older to get their annual mammograms by offering #GramYourMammSMG, a novel program that invites patients to  create and photograph personalized messages for loved ones in front of a colorful wall and tag them on Instagram.

At SMG’s breast imaging locations in Berkeley Heights, Westfield, Florham Park and Livingston, walls decorated with paper flowers in hues of pink – the signature color of Breast Cancer Awareness Month - are available along with the supplies needed to create a felt board message with a friend or family member’s name and social media moniker.  Patients need only to bring their cell phones to shoot and post photos.

“We’re committed to ensuring that women over 40 have annual mammograms because they’re the best way to detect early signs of breast cancer, and mammography is the only breast imaging modality known to reduce the mortality of breast cancer.  In fact, mammography can find cancer as early as three years before a tumor can be felt,” said William Diehl, MD, Director of the Summit Medical Group Breast Care Center.  “Early detection is the key to better outcomes and can literally save lives.”

SMG conveniently offers mammograms by appointment at its sites in Berkeley Heights, Westfield, Livingston and Florham Park.  Walk-in service is also available in Livingston and Florham Park for those with no history of breast cancer, surgery or implants. Walk-ins are accepted in Florham Park every Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the second Saturday of each month, 9 a.m. to noon. In Livingston, walk-ins are welcome every Monday from noon to 8 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the fourth Saturday of each month, 9 a.m. until noon.   For more information or an appointment, call (908) 277-8673.
