Nadia Ramdass, field reporter for News 12 NJ, interviewed SMG’s Dr. Alison Kole, Director of Outpatient Sleep Services, on the sleep texting phenomenon. The news story was in response to a Villanova University study titled, “Interrupted Sleep: College Students sleeping with technology” that was published last month in the Journal of American College Health. The study found that the habit of using smartphones to message friends while asleep (without any memory of doing so) is a common technology trend among adolescents and young adults.
Dr. Kole spoke to News 12 NJ about the significance of this new disorder; the dangers and negative effects it can have on sleep, which should be a restorative process. Well done, Dr. Kole!
