Provides Advanced Technology and Comprehensive Range of Image-Guided Procedures for
Cancer and other Diseases

FLORHAM PARK, NJ JULY 23, 2018 – Northern New Jersey residents seeking Interventional Radiology (IR) services for both cancer-related and non-cancer cases can now go to the state-of-the-art, newly constructed Summit Medical Group Cancer Center located at 150 Park Avenue in Florham Park.  With the opening of the Interventional Radiology (IR) and Imaging Department at its freestanding cancer center, Summit Medical Group is offering advanced IR procedures, including Ultrasound-Guided biopsy and CT-Guided biopsy – procedures that are typically exclusive to a hospital setting – in an outpatient, coordinated-care environment.

The newly minted Imaging Department features two highly advanced outpatient IR suites. A team of board-certified interventional radiologists, led by Dr. Waseem Bhatti, Medical Director of Imaging at Summit Medical Group MD Anderson Cancer Center, is skilled in a wide range of procedures, including:

  • Image-Guided Biopsies
  • Ultrasound-Guided Paracentesis, Thoracentesis
  • Chemo Port Placements
  • Tumor Embolization and Ablation Consults and Treatments
  • Feeding Tube Placements
  • Vertebroplasty/Kyphoplasty
  • Palliative Drains and Central Line Access Placements
  • Uterine Fibroid Embolization
  • CT and MRI Angiography

“The opening of the Interventional Radiology department at Summit Medical Group Cancer Center further strengthens our ability to provide patients in northern New Jersey access to the most advanced treatments and to the finest level of coordinated care that they’ve come to expect from Summit Medical Group,” said Dr. Jeffrey Le Benger, Summit Medical Group Chairman of the Board and CEO.

“By using a combination of clinical decision tools, hardware and software technology innovations along with purposeful scanning, we can optimize medical imaging for patients and offer patients increased confidence in the treatment of cancer and other diseases,” said Dr. Bhatti.

Summit Medical Group Cancer Center offers state-of-the-art, comprehensive diagnostic radiological imaging services that include interventional radiology, general x-ray, multislice computed tomography (CT), high-field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), digital diagnostic and screening mammography, ultrasound, positron emission computed tomography (PET-CT) and general nuclear medicine. The advanced technology offerings include:

  • Siemens Biograph mCT-20 with FlowMotion Technology PET-CT delivers a highly sophisticated imaging technique that provides detailed information to physicians about the presence or spread of disease and accurately identifies its precise location so radiation treatment planning is better targeted. PET/CT is commonly used to diagnose, stage, and/or restage a variety of types of cancer including breast, colorectal, esophageal, melanoma, lymphoma, lung, colorectal, head and neck, and cervical cancers. It can be used to monitor tumor response to treatment during the planned course of therapy, or in non-invasive cardiac diagnosis and stroke assessment.
  • Siemens Symbia Evo Nuclear Medicine Camera System delivers high-quality SPECT images to facilitate physician decision making in general purpose, cardiology, neurology and oncology studies.
  • Canon Aquilion Prime SP CT produces optimal images with the lowest dose possible for every patient from pediatric to bariatric, up to 660-pounds. The scanner adapts to patients’ heart rate automatically, even overcoming unexpected arrhythmia.
  • Siemens Artis Q Angiography System allows clear visualization of the smallest vessels and devices – static or in motion – even in challenging situations such as with obese patients and steep angulations. The system’s 3D imaging provides visualization of small bleedings in the head and millimetric HCC (Hepatocellular carcinoma) lesions in the liver.
  • Siemens Artis Zee Multi-Purpose System for fluoroscopy and angiography provides optimal support for a broad spectrum of diagnostic and interventional procedures by combining 2k imaging with highly practical and user-friendly handling features.
  • GE Senographe Pristina Mammography System is the first mammography system that brings 3D technology to our patients.  This technology, also known as digital breast Tomosynthesis, delivers superior diagnostic accuracy at the same low dose as a 2D mammography exam, the lowest patient dose of all FDA-approved 3D mammography systems.
  • GE Optima MRI 450w 1.5T with GEM Suite coil technology is designed to help maximize comfort for patients undergoing MRI exams.

The American College of Radiology accredits Summit Medical Group Imaging in breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, mammography, and nuclear medicine.
