A food allergy occurs when the body reacts against a harmless food protein. These reactions usually happen soon after the food is eaten and can range from mild to severe. Food allergies can start in childhood or as an adult, but over the last several years, food allergies in children have been on the rise. Unfortunately, parents may be unaware that their child has a food allergy until the first time their child experiences a reaction which can be scary. That’s why it’s important for not only parents, but also anyone who is caring for a child with a food allergy, to be able to recognize the symptoms and be prepared with an emergency action plan.
