Oncology & Hematology Opinion Leader In Spotlight as Advocate & Honoree

Last updated: Jun 08, 2017

On May 2, Dr. Kenneth Adler of Summit Medical Group was on Capitol Hill to focus attention on medical research funding and patient access to care. Two days later, back in New Jersey, he was the focus of attention as an honoree at the American Cancer Society’s Starry Night Gala.

The board-certified hematologist and oncologist kicked off the month in Washington, DC as a member of a small delegation representing the American Society of Hematology (ASH), the world's largest professional organization for clinicians and scientists dedicated to advancing the understanding, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disorders affecting the blood, bone marrow and immunologic, hemostatic and vascular systems. Dr. Adler and his colleagues, prominent physicians from across the country, met with members of both the House of Representatives and Senate. Their discussions with the lawmakers covered a broad range of topics including pricing parity for oral cancer medications, expansion of sickle cell disease programs at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and ASH's perspective on the latest health care reform proposals.

A few days later, on May 6, Dr. Adler was an honoree at the 10th Annual Starry Night Gala, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. The “Run for the Roses” themed event was held the evening of the Kentucky Derby at the Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone. SMG was an event sponsor.

Along with his work at SMG in Morristown, Dr. Adler is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and Hospice Medical Director for the VNA of Somerset Hills. He is also Chairman of the New Jersey Commission on Cancer Research and Co-Chair of the American Society of Hematology Practice Partnership. He has been the recipient of many professional honors including the American Cancer Society Physician of the Year for New Jersey. In 2014, Dr. Adler was also among the physicians who contributed chapters to “The Big Casino: America’s Best Cancer Doctors Share Their Most Powerful Stories,” a book hailed for personalizing cancer doctors in a manner that’s both upbeat and realistic.
