Cynthia Paige, MD, specializes in family medicine. Dr. Paige's expertise includes chronic disease management, treatment for obesity, prevention, and wellness.
Dr. Paige has been Founder and Medical Director of the Cypress Health Institute since 2010.
Dr. Paige is Former Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and Former Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) - New Jersey Medical School in Newark. She has been a faculty advisor in complementary medicine, a founder and faculty advisor for community electives, and a clerkship director at New Jersey Medical School. Dr. Paige also has been an attending physician at University Hospital in Newark, Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville, Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, and Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.
Dr. Paige's research interests include obesity prevention and management, community health and disease prevention promotion, diabetes prevention and management, women's issues in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and integrative medicine. She has been Principal Investigator and Coinvestigator for clinical trials on these and related topics. Dr. Paige is the author and coauthor of articles, abstracts, books, and book chapters, and monographs on a wide range of topics in family medicine. Her articles and abstracts are published in prestigious, peer-reviewed scientific journals, including Neurology, Journal of the National Medical Association, and Perspectives - Journal of the New Jersey Academy of Family Physicians. She has delivered local, regional, national, and international invited presentations in her field.
Dr. Paige says, "I use evidence-based methods to individualize care for each of my patients." She adds, "I encourage each of my patients to take control of their health and partner in decisions about their health care. To help them achieve these goals, I educate them about preventive measures, self healing, and cognitive behavioral techniques that can empower them to maintain and restore their health."
Dr. Paige is President of the New Jersey Medical Association. She is a member of the National Medical Association, New Jersey Academy of Family Physicians, American Academy of Family Physicians, and American Medical Association. Dr. Paige has been a member of the New Jersey Medical PC Board of Directors, University Physicians Associates Board of Directors, New Jersey Department of Health, Breast, and Cervical Cancer Coalition, and Governor's Spouse Program on Breast Cancer Awareness.
Dr. Paige is the recipient of more than 18 honors and awards, including the National Council of Negro Women Health Award and Service Award, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Distinguished Healthcare Professional Award, Assemblywoman Sheila Oliver Health Professional Award, New Jersey Medical School Golden Apple Award, and Newark City Council Commendation for Commitment to Youth Award, among others.To her credit, Dr. Paige has volunteered her expertise as a mentor for the Sojourner Truth School in Newark, New Jersey, and Apatrapa Clinic in Apatrapa Ghana, West Africa.
